A Thanksgiving Tradition, Detroit Lions Football

The 68th Annual Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day Game!

Ah, Thanksgiving traditions:turkey, dressing, cranberrys, yams, pumpkin pie & football!

Thousands will head down to Ford Field to watch the Detroit Lions take on the first place Green Bay Packers on this 68th annual sold out Thanksgiving Day Game. Going down to the game is a Thanksgiving tradition for many in Michigan, and hopefully the Lions can shed this 2 game losing streak and win this very important game against the division rival Packers.

The half time show for this nationally televised game is always a big event. This years half time show will feature the Goo Goo Dolls

Whether you're eating deep fried turkey at a tail gate party or having a turkey dinner at home with the game on the tube, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving and GO LIONS!

Fun facts about the Annual Tradition

  • The Lions first Thanksgiving Day game was in 1934 with a 19-16 loss to Chicago
  • The Lions have played 22 different teams since the Thanksgiving tradition started
  • The Lions have played the Packers 17 times on Thanksgiving
  • The Lions have played the Bears 15 Times on Thanksgiving
  • The last time the Lions & Packers met for a Thanksgiving Day game was in 2003 with a Lions 22-14 victory!

Mike, wasn't it a Thanksgiving Day game about 12-15 years ago that the infamous "Dirty Dozen" play happened?  Do you remember that?  (Oh heck, I'm dating myself again..)

Mike,

Football is great on Thanksgiving. The Detroit Lions and Green Bay? I think the Lions are going to have their hands full. Good luck with the Lions this Thanksgiving and I'll be watching the game. My wifes from Michigan although she's not much of a football fan.

Sorry Mike, I am a huge Packers fan and not only because I was born and raised in the land of green and gold.  This year I will be traveling away from home for Thanksgiving but have already ok'd it with the host family that I can watch the game...shameless? maybe.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Amy - that's o.k.  I'm actually a Brett Favre fan, except when they're playing the Lions. Hope you enjoy the game!

Hey Mike, The Cowboy's play every Thanksgiving too...at least as long as I've been paying attention. :)

Shannon - Yep, the Cowboys play the second game every Thanksgiving. I think they started their tradition in 1966. Cowboys are looking pretty good this season.

Jeff & Grace - thanks for stopping by! Colts are a great team, but I think the Patriots are better.

Mike

You know I'll be watching.

And Kris the dirty dozen game was actually against Dallas but not on Thanksgiving. The Lions won the game on a field goal and afterwards,  replay showed they had 12 men on the field, but no one caught it (this was before they had video replay).

Terry - enjoy the game & Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Thanks for the answer to Kris's question, I don't remember that one.
